{"id":36,"date":"2022-10-10T15:56:03","date_gmt":"2022-10-10T15:56:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usahealthresource.com\/?p=36"},"modified":"2022-10-10T16:36:09","modified_gmt":"2022-10-10T16:36:09","slug":"iron-lowering-drug-slashes-candida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usahealthresource.com\/index.php\/2022\/10\/10\/iron-lowering-drug-slashes-candida\/","title":{"rendered":"Iron-Lowering Drug Slashes Candida"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Do you know what infects 2 million Americans every year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Candida albicans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although I bet, you weren't thinking about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The worst part is that out of all those 2 million people, over <strong>23,000 die because of candida albicans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What was once an easy-to-treat infection has now turned into a <strong>life-threatening disease<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You see, <strong>antibiotics cannot kill candida albicans<\/strong> because it is an antibiotic-resistant fungus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And candida albicans is not the only drug-resistant threat that we are facing today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has warned that the current antibiotic resistance threat is serious and urgent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, some researchers claim that we may return to a <strong><em>&#8220;pre-antibiotic era in which minor infections can once again become deadly.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are there solutions to the new antibiotic resistance threat?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although there is no official solution presented to the public, researchers believe they've made a huge breakthrough!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They found that by using <strong>a drug for blood disorders <\/strong>(which can lower iron levels)<strong> starves Candida albicans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This happens because Candida albicans is feeding on iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, the primary power source of Candida is iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without it, Candida simply shuts down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the research, scientists did just that, they administered deferasirox (a drug that treats blood disorders) to mice with Candida albicans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By comparing the group that received the drug and the one that didn't, the results were shocking: <strong>the experiment worked!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>The iron-lowering drug affected the Candida so much that it destroyed it in a proportion of 88%.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This finding is significant since it's the first one that actively stopped the spreading of infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, the treatment with deferasirox, the iron-lowering drug, did not cause iron deficiency in the mice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who knows, perhaps one day this might be the alternative measure to treating Candida albicans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are your thoughts on this incredible finding?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you agree with the researcher's vision of repurposing drugs to treat diseases?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can't wait to read your opinions on this, and until next time, please don't hesitate to ask me your questions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you know what infects 2 million Americans every year?
